WELL DONE TEAM MOUNT BEAUTY
We are so lucky to have such great staff and we would like to thank them all for their help and support throughout our busy winter season. We thank our two locums, Dr Ken Koh and Dr Dave Emonson who provided support when needed and we are also very grateful for our patients understanding when appointments were limited. We have had a busy winter with lots of extra-curricular activities being held as detailed below.
Hair raising night: Mount Beauty Medical Centre hosted a hair-raising funding event for Breast and Prostate Cancer during September. We donated $30 per head for any ski patroller who was willing to shave their head. Dr Mark Zagorski, our intern Joel Lawrence and our retired locum Leo Smith also offered to shave their heads if $500 was raised. The group raised over $800 so Mark, Joel and Leo were all shorn. 10 ski patrollers came to the party and left without hair. All in all over $1,500 was raised on the night. Well done to all involved – a great cause.
Rural GPs saving Lives: We are delighted to share the story of Dr Lauren Tanzen, Dr Skye Delaney, Dr Mark Zagorski and David Ferris (Ambulance Victoria) who all took part in saving the life of 11 year old Oliver Hopkins in Falls Creek. Ollie's heart stopped at 3.00am while on a ski trip to Falls Creek with his family. Ollie was saved thanks to our dedicated rural GPs and the supporting community including the oversnow transport driver who transported Ollie from the lodge to the Falls Creek Medical Centre. Ambulance Victoria has used this scenario to produce a training video on the need for good CPR. You can check out the video at https://www.facebook.com/AmbulanceVictoria
Kangaroo Hoppet: Congratulations to all the Medical Centre staff and their families who competed in the 2017 Kangaroo Hoppet. We think it was a record year with 4 doctors competing along with 8 family members as well as other family members volunteering on the day. Congratulations to Mark Zagorski who competed in his 25Year and also to Dr Skye who came first in her age group in the 42km Hoppet. Fantastic effort by all.
R.U.OK Day: The 14th September was R U OK day. Thanks to the Mount Beauty Bendigo Bank for getting behind this national charity and encouraging us to wear yellow, caps and wristbands for the day and thanks also for the lunchtime sausages. Mount Beauty Medical Centre supports R U OK organisation whose vision is a world where we're all connected and are protected from suicide.
NO SMOKING ZONE
We would like to inform all our patients that smoking is not permitted in the practice, outside the front door or in the car parking area. We have a total smoke free environment and we hope our patients understand and comply with our protocol.
Over 75 Years Health Assessment
Are you over 75 and have not been invited to have a free Health Assessment? Our lovely nurses would love to see you to complete this assessment. This is also a health promotion initiative which may help identify any health issues before they become a problem for you. Please discuss having a health assessment with your doctor or with one of our nursing staff.
Shingles Vaccine Free For 70-79 Year Olds
The shingles vaccine is provided free of charge to people aged 70 to 79 years, subject to vaccine supply. We have organized several “shingles vaccination clinics” over the past few months. If you have not been contacted and would like to have this vaccination please ask our receptionist when the next vaccination clinic will be held. The risk of Shingles increases as a person gets older so we hope that if you fit into the age group that you take advantage of the free vaccine.
