WELCOME TO OUR TWO NEW NURSES
Mount Beauty Medical Centre would like to welcome two new nurses to our team. Andrea Herrin and Lisa Townsend will be helping our doctors with patient dressings, health assessments, management plans, vaccinations, ECG's, Spirometry, Excision of Lesions (and lots more) as well as provide support to our Allied Health team of Dietitian, Diabetes Educator, Podiatrist and Mental Health Counsellors. Our nurses are a vital part of our workforce and with the extra nursing time available we should be able to cater to most of our patients nursing needs. We will have some photos on our waiting room television as well as on our facebook page soon. Welcome Andrea and Lisa.
OFF TO THE COMMONWEALTH GAMES
We are very proud of our Dr Angela who has been selected to attend the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast as part of the official medical team. Angela spent a weekend completing training and picking up her uniform. Angela will be involved in the field of play and athlete care at the gymnastics venue. We wish her all the very best and hope she doesn't have to cope with any serious injury or mishap. Check out our facebook page for a photo of Angela in her official uniform.
You may have already seen advertising about getting your flu shot this year. We have been notified by the Department of Health that protection against influenza may start to decrease from 3 to 4 months following vaccination so we will be holding off our flu clinics until later in April to ensure the best cover over the winter months. We will be notifying patients who have had the flu shot previously when the vaccines are available and clinic dates and times have been organised.
INCREASE TO FEES
We have managed to keep the same fees since November 2016 however due to the rising costs of employment as well as the ongoing running costs of the practice we need to increase them slightly. On 1st April 2018 we will be increasing fees by $1.00 per billing item number. We will continue to Bulk Bill services such as vaccinations, Health Assessments, GP Management Plans and Mental Health Plans as well as all children who are still attending school. If you feel that this increase will cause hardship for you or your family, please feel free to discuss it with the doctor at the time of your next consultation.
HAVE YOUR SAY ON “MEDICARE REBATE FREEZE”
The freeze on Medicare rebates will continue to directly impact on you. The freeze means that the rising costs of providing a Medical service will continue to be passed onto you. Any fee increase will incur a larger gap payment. If you care about the increasing cost of medical services we encourage all our patients to send a letter of complaint to the Minister of Health. We hope that the Federal Government will listen to patients and unfreeze Medicare rebates so the patient gap payment remains manageable.
MELANOMA SURVEILLANCE IMAGING
MBMC will again be offering access to Janelle from Melanoma Surveillance Imaging who will be visiting the practice late March. Janelle will take photos of any suspicious skin spots and provide each patient with their photos on a USB. The photos are discussed with the doctor and further treatment organised. If you are interested in getting your spots checked, please discuss this with your doctor.
PACE (Pulmonary and Caridac Exercise and Education program)
The PACE program has commenced being funded by Murray Primary Health Network through Alpine Health. This program involves development of a Cardiac / COPD rehabilitation clinic using group exercise programs. You can learn more about Alpine Health's PACE Program here. If you are interested in being involved please talk to your doctor.
DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that we bulk bill all young people who live in the area and are still at school? We need their medicare number and if they are a minor, the medicare number, name and date of birth of a parent. We can then transmit the account directly to Medicare so there is no out of pocket expence.
Did you know that Mount Beauty Medical Centre doctors are on-call afterhours 75% of the year – every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night, every public holiday, every day over the Christmas and Easter periods and every third Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. If you ring the hospital, the nurse will triage you and contact the doctor if needed or requested.
